For many supporters of The Camphill Foundation UK & Ireland, the values of community, care and inclusion hold deep personal meaning. One way of continuing to support these values into the future is by leaving a Gift in your Will, otherwise known as a legacy.
In addition to regular donations, legacies play an important role in enabling the Foundation to support Camphill communities and initiatives, primarily across the UK and Ireland. They help sustain places where vulnerable people with learning disabilities and extra support needs can live, learn and work as part of a shared life, supported with care and respect.
Leaving a legacy is a personal choice and can be made alongside providing for family and loved ones. Every gift, no matter its size, helps to strengthen the long-term future of Camphill and its values.
By donating or leaving a legacy to Camphill via The Camphill Foundation UK & Ireland, you are supporting Camphill across the UK and Ireland as a whole, rather than a single community or project. This enables the Foundation to respond flexibly to need, ensuring support reaches where it can make the greatest difference.
However, if you have a specific wish for your donation or legacy, we would be more than happy to accommodate this wherever possible. This might include a preference for a particular region, type of project, specific community, or a request to support the operating costs of the Foundation itself, such as promotion, communications, or essential travel.
The work of the Foundation’s directors and trustees is carried out entirely on a voluntary basis. As a result, operating costs are kept to a minimum and the remaining funds are used solely to benefit Camphill communities and initiatives.
If you are thinking about leaving a legacy, there are three main types to consider:
Residuary Legacy
A residuary legacy is a gift of all, or a percentage of what remains of your estate after other gifts, debts and expenses have been settled. For many, this is the preferred option as it allows the gift to reflect changes in circumstances and retain its value over time.
Pecuniary Legacy
A pecuniary legacy is a fixed sum of money left to a person, charity, or organisation, meaning a person can decide in advance the exact amount they wish to give.
Specific Legacy
A specific legacy involves leaving a particular item of value, such as a property, share or another non-cash asset, like jewellery.
If you would like to leave a legacy to The Camphill Foundation UK & Ireland, it is essential that it is written into your Will by a qualified solicitor. This ensures your wishes are clearly recorded, legally valid and carried out as you intend. A solicitor can also advise on the appropriate wording and help ensure that your Will reflects your individual circumstances.
